Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Advanced Math & Science Academy

Advanced Math & Science Academy waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Doherty Memorial Highlanders. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 7-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Drew Laidley made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Laidley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Trevor Petty was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Liam Thornley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Advanced Math & Science Academy pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Doherty Memorial, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.

Coming up, Advanced Math & Science Academy will head out on the road to challenge Burncoat at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Doherty Memorial, they will host Auburn at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
