Basketball Game Preview: Lee County Yellow Jackets vs. Union Pines Vikings

Lee County hasn't had much luck against Union Pines recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Both will face off at 7:30 p.m. without much rest having both just played. Union Pines took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lee County, who comes in off a win.

Lee County will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Pinecrest, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Lee County skirted past Pinecrest 47-44. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Yellow Jackets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Patriots are ranked 156th).

Meanwhile, Union Pines suffered their biggest loss since February 27, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 86-65 to Richmond. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (59), the Vikings still had to take the loss.

Lee County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Union Pines, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.

Lee County came out on top in a nail-biter against Union Pines in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 62-60. Will Lee County repeat their success, or does Union Pines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
