Baseball Game Preview: Peru Tigers vs. Wabash Apaches

Peru and Wabash are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Tigers will take on the Apaches at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Peru will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

On Monday, Peru earned a 6-2 win over Manchester.

The team relied heavily on Lucas Musser, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. He has become a key player for Peru: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-4 otherwise. Bryce Hill was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Rochester typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Wabash proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Zebras 7-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Apaches as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Mackey Sorg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Haiden McWhirt was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dominic Baker, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Peru's record is now 8-5. As for Wabash, their record now sits at 8-9.

Everything went Peru's way against Wabash in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Peru made off with a 16-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
