Baseball Recap: St. Joseph-By-The-Sea's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Salesian Eagles with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Vikings have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Nicholas Zarski looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Joseph-by-the-Sea got a big performance out of Gioacchino Bonsangue, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ryan Downey also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Salesian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea will head out on the road to take on Fordham Prep at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Salesian, they will host Regis at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
