Baseball Recap: Skyline Falls to James Wood in First Game of Season

Skyline had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 19-11 to the James Wood Colonels on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Hawks in their meetings with the Colonels: they've now lost eight in a row.

Izaiah Matthews and Kaiden Brown did some serious damage despite the final result: Matthews scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Brown scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Matthews has posted since back in April of 2024. Cameron Kerns was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Looking ahead, Skyline will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Sherando at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for James Wood, they are taking a road trip to take on Strasburg at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
