Baseball Recap: Manchester Comes Up Short

Manchester had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-6 to make it four. They fell just short of the Hanover-Horton Comets by a score of 2-1. If the Flying Dutchmen were looking for revenge after losing 7-3 to the Comets when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Hanover-Horton, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Hanover-Horton's part, Luke Soper spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. Soper has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lukas NaDell, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manchester will face off against Michigan Center at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hanover-Horton, they will take on Columbia Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Comets surely won't give up without a fight.
