Basketball Game Preview: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. Northshore Panthers

The Gaston Christian Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Northshore Panthers at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Gaston Christian will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Gaston Christian picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-47 victory over Huss. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Huskies are ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gaston Christian relied on the efforts of Dillon Joy, who posted eight points and seven rebounds, and Cameron Newman, who earned 12 points. The dominant performance also gave Joy a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Kendall Southern, who had four points and three steals.

Gaston Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northshore, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They managed a 58-52 win over Carver Collegiate Academy last Monday.

Gaston Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.9 points per game. As for Northshore, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
