Basketball Recap: Hazen Comes Up Short

Hazen was the 60-39 winner over Kennedy Catholic when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Hazen Highlanders were beaten by the Kennedy Catholic Lancers 65-31 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while the Lancers are ranked 75th).

Hazen's loss came despite strong showings from Mia McCarthy and Sadie Hollander. McCarthy went 7 of 17 en route to 16 points, while Hollander almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. What's more, Hollander also racked up two steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2023.

Hazen's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Kennedy Catholic, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

Hazen wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-43 victory against Chief Sealth on the 28th. As for Kennedy Catholic, they will take on Olympic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
