Baseball Game Preview: Sterling Golden Warriors vs. Dixon Dukes & Duchesses

The Sterling Golden Warriors will head out to square off against the Dixon Dukes & Duchesses at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Monday, Sterling came up short against Sycamore and fell 13-10. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Warriors in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost four in a row.

Wyatt Cassens and Drew Nettleton stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cassens went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Nettleton went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Lincoln Davis was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Dixon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Rochelle. That's two games in a row now that the Dukes & Duchesses have lost by just one run.

Brady Lawrence was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jagger Kemp, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Sterling's defeat dropped their record down to 12-20. As for Dixon, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.

Sterling skirted past Dixon 2-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
