Softball Game Preview: Seton Catholic Sentinels vs. Gilbert Christian Knights

The Seton Catholic Sentinels will face off against the Gilbert Christian Knights at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Seton Catholic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Valley Christian, who was ranked 18th at the time (Seton Catholic was ranked 25th). The Sentinels lost 11-0 to the Trojans on Tuesday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Sentinels, who until this matchup were averaging 2.2 runs allowed.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Christian suffered their biggest loss since April 25, 2025 on Monday. They came up short against Northwest Christian, falling 21-11. The Knights have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Reagan Belcastro was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Genevieve Whitehurst, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Gilbert Christian now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Seton Catholic, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 14-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seton Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gilbert Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Seton Catholic got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Gilbert Christian by a conclusive 16-3 score. Will the Sentinels repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
