Softball Recap: Otay Ranch Extends Home Winning Streak to 11

After losing to Mater Dei Catholic the last time they met, Otay Ranch decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Crusaders 4-3. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by just one run.

Scarlett Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avah Gonzales was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

Otay Ranch pushed their record up to 12-9-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Mater Dei Catholic, the loss snapped their winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 20-6 record.

Coincidentally, Otay Ranch and Mater Dei Catholic will both be playing Bonita Vista the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will host the Barons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Crusaders will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
