Softball Preview: North Judson-San Pierre Bluejays vs. South Newton Rebels

The North Judson-San Pierre Bluejays will head out on the road to face off against the South Newton Rebels at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. North Judson-San Pierre is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.

On Thursday, North Judson-San Pierre came up short against Rensselaer Central and fell 7-4.

Molly Madsen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.

Meanwhile, South Newton came into Thursday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Seeger 18-5. The high-scoring effort was just what South Newton needed considering they were shutout in their previous matchup.

South Newton also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Briley Iseminger gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Faye Springsteen was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Addysen Standish was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

North Judson-San Pierre's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6. As for South Newton, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-9.

South Newton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Judson-San Pierre has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for South Newton, though, as they've been averaging 11.5. Given North Judson-San Pierre's sizable advantage in that area, South Newton will need to find a way to close that gap.

North Judson-San Pierre took their win against South Newton in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 12-0.
