Baseball Recap: Gray's Creek Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Gray's Creek ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Lumberton Pirates 10-9. The victory was nothing new for the Bears as they're now sitting on three straight.

Damian Taylor tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cooper Long, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.

Gray's Creek now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Lumberton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Gray's Creek and Lumberton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Bears will face off against Cape Fear at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (209 vs. 35). Meanwhile, Lumberton (ranked 288th) will meet Terry Sanford (ranked 21st) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
