Baseball Recap: De La Salle Finds Playoff Glory Versus St. Mary's

It's playoff time, and De La Salle had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the St. Mary's Rams a 3-0 shutout on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Spartans: when they faced off against the Rams back in March, they had to take a 4-1 defeat.

Not much got past Graham Schlicht, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep St. Mary's off the board.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Antonio Castro, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Niko Baumgartner was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

De La Salle has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 26-9.

Coming up, De La Salle will face off against Junipero Serra at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Padres have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. St. Mary's does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
