Football Game Preview: Hawken Hawks vs. Lutheran West Longhorns

The Hawken Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Lutheran West Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hawken knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Lutheran West likes a good challenge.

Hawken took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 36-33 win over West Geauga.

It was another big night for Donovan Moorhead, who threw for 383 yards and four TDs. Moorhead is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Tommy Wright also helped with two scores in total.

Meanwhile, Lutheran West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 41-6 defeat at the hands of Perry. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while the Pirates are ranked 99th).

Hawken's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.0 points over those games. As for Lutheran West, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Hawken didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Lutheran West in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 27-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
