Basketball Game Preview: Roanoke Catholic Celtics vs. The Covenant Eagles

The Roanoke Catholic Celtics will head out on the road to square off against The Covenant Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Tuesday, Roanoke Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat New Covenant and fell 2-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Celtics were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, The Covenant came up short against Carlisle on Thursday and fell 48-37.

Roanoke Catholic will need to focus on slowing down Kerrigan Poindexter, one of several The Covenant players who made an impact when they last played. She posted nine points and four steals. Poindexter has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Makayla Hargrove, who put up ten points and three steals.

The Covenant's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 15-6. As for Roanoke Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Roanoke Catholic was taken down by The Covenant 63-25 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Roanoke Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
