Softball Recap: Hanover Park Comes Up Short

Hanover Park extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 7-6 in the process. They came up short against the Morris Catholic Crusaders, falling 11-1. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Crusaders earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

As for Morris Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5. Considering they have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Morris Catholic's part, Sofia Reisinger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Reisinger has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Morris Catholic got a massive performance out of Savannah Mead, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Ava Florio was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Hanover Park will challenge Paramus Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Paladins' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Morris Catholic, they will take on St. Thomas Aquinas at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
