Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mesa Verde). They breezed by the Esparto Spartans to the tune of 65-28 on Saturday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Mavericks as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Mesa Verde's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Walton, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Colon, who scored 14 points.

When it comes to explaining why Esparto lost, don't look at Larry Williams. Despite the final result, he put up 12 points and three steals. That was a full 42.9% of Esparto's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cohen Sihapanyay, who earned seven points and five rebounds.

Mesa Verde's victory bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Esparto, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Mesa Verde wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 67-21 defeat against Lincoln on the 26th. As for Esparto, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Creative Connections Arts Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 7th.
