Softball Recap: Navajo Pine Takes a Loss

Navajo Pine had lost six straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-12 to make it seven. They lost 22-0 to the Laguna Acoma Hawks. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Laguna Acoma, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Considering they have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Laguna Acoma's part, Ciandra Lucero made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave Lucero a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Laguna Acoma got a massive performance out of Kaylee Lorenzo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave Lorenzo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Brown, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

While Navajo Pine had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
