King's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but A'Rhiyan Montgomery led the charge by rushing for 141 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Another reason for the win was King's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Xavier Williams was especially locked on to Goose Creek Memorial's QB and sacked him twice. Williams also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine. King received some extra help from Edmond, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, on Friday Summer Creek's undefeated season almost came to an end. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-35 win over Atascocita. Surprisingly, this marked the Bulldogs' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Summer Creek's win came from a few key players King will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Benny Easter Jr., who picked up 222 receiving yards and three scores. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 105.6 receiving yards per game. Noah Spinks was another key player, throwing for 501 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.5% of his passes.
King's record is now 4-1. As for Summer Creek, their record now sits at 5-0.
The upcoming contest will be a clash of competing strengths. King has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 361.4 rushing yards a game.
