Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Pumas vs. Corona Panthers

The Chaparral Pumas will take on the Corona Panthers in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Chaparral is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Carter 79-51. While the Pumas didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Corona entered their tilt with Lakeside on Wednesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 68-38 victory over the Lancers. The Panthers pushed the score to 58-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lancers had little chance of recovering from.

Corona is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for Chaparral, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.

Things could have been worse for Chaparral, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-40 loss to Corona in their previous meeting back in November of 2019.
