Baseball Game Preview: Clearfield Falcons vs. Viewmont Vikings

For the second straight game, Clearfield will face off against Viewmont. The Falcons will head out to square off against the Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Clearfield will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Clearfield took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Viewmont, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Falcons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vikings on Wednesday, sneaking past 5-3.

Clearfield got a great performance from Brody Unck as he struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Unck has become a key player for the Falcons: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hudson Meyer was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Clearfield pushed their record up to 8-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Viewmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clearfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Viewmont struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
