League recap: Burkburnett rises in state rank

3A Region I District 5 recap November 5, 2013

Burkburnett moved up to 516 from 553 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region I District 5. The Bulldogs climbed the ranks as a result of topping Iowa Park 27-21.

Graham extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Hirschi, 71-39. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Steers.

Ben Davis threw for 292 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 22-28 with 0 interceptions.

Davis put up the best numbers in passing as Graham bested the Huskies. Davis' favorite target this week was Derek Sides, who caught 3 passes for 70 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Kenny Davidson's team's Davis and Bryce Reeves have proven to be a lethal combination. Davis has thrown for 2,438 yards this season, while Reeves has 46 catches for 867 yards. Hirschi's Cedrick Battle leads the league in rushing yards with 1,364.

Terrance Cooper has rushed for 905 yards on 129 carries so far this year.

At the moment, the Steers are in first, while Burkburnett is in fifth.

Cody Slater's team fell to Graham 71-39 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cooper threw for 194 yards and 4 touchdowns in the defeat.
