Broadwater Academy is a perfect 6-0 against Arcadia since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Vikings will host the Firebirds at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Broadwater Academy's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Hampton Christian Academy. The win was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on six straight.
Elana Hickman was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrianna Holloway, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Broadwater Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .100.
Meanwhile, Arcadia made easy work of Northampton on Thursday and carried off a 16-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Firebirds in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won seven in a row.
Brinlee Kauthen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Kauthen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Arcadia got a massive performance out of Payton Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was Taylor's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ryann Giddens, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Broadwater Academy pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Arcadia, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Broadwater Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Arcadia struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Broadwater Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Arcadia in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 4-1. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Firebirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
