Baseball Game Preview: Pickens Blue Flame vs. Daniel Lions

Pickens is 0-7 against Daniel since April of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Blue Flame are taking a road trip to square off against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. Pickens has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Pickens' offense. They lost 14-0 to Daniel on Tuesday. The Blue Flame's loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

For Daniel's part, Ian McCrary looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. McCrary has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ty Simpson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Greyson Davis, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Daniel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pickens only posted an OBP of .286.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Daniel, bringing their record up to 12-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Pickens, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.
