Basketball Recap: Winthrop Comes Up Short

Winthrop suffered their biggest defeat since February 6th on Thursday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Spruce Mountain Phoenix an easy 70-46 victory. The Ramblers haven't had much luck with the Phoenix recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Winthrop now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Spruce Mountain, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winthrop and Old Orchard Beach will compete for holiday cheer at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Winthrop is facing Old Orchard Beach at the right time seeing as Old Orchard Beach is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Spruce Mountain, they will be home for the holidays to greet Yarmouth at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Spruce Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Yarmouth likes a good challenge.
