Baseball Game Preview: Union Academy Cardinals vs. Pro Stock Royals Academy Royals

The Union Academy Cardinals will face off against the Pro Stock Royals Academy Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Union Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 23-1 margin over Albemarle on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Zamarion Shine and Beckett Gurian did most of the damage at the plate: Shine scored three runs while going 2-for-2, while Gurian scored four runs while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Shine a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Ethan Edwards, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

While Pro Stock Royals Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over Charlotte S last Tuesday.

David Rowles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

On the hitting side, Pro Stock Royals Academy's win was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alex Ramos, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Joseph Zaffarese was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Pro Stock Royals Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Charlotte S only posted an OBP of .214.

Pro Stock Royals Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Union Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
