Baseball Recap: Utica Comes Up Short

Utica extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-16 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Anchor Bay Tars. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Tars this season, with their most recent loss being a 9-6 defeat on Thursday.

Denver Billy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Michael Hoppe, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Anchor Bay, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Anchor Bay's side, Austin McMahon was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave McMahon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zac Kruper, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Utica will welcome Cousino at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Anchor Bay, they will host St. Clair at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
