Baseball Game Preview: Menlo-Atherton Bears vs. Pioneer Mustangs

The Menlo-Atherton Bears will face off against the Pioneer Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Menlo-Atherton's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Pioneer has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

Menlo-Atherton is headed into the match having just posted their closest victory since May 1, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Carlmont.

Wes Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Menlo-Atherton's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jimmy Zaharias, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Pioneer sidestepped Christopher for a 3-2 win.

Menlo-Atherton's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Pioneer, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Menlo-Atherton couldn't quite get it done against Pioneer in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
