Middletown had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-8 to make it five. They fell 10-6 to the Cloverdale Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

Tallulah Madrid spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Taylor Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Bev Fetters also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
As for Cloverdale, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-1. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly four runs.
On Cloverdale's side, Camryn Bird was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Bird was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ronni Hatcher, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Donahoo, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Middletown is set to take on their familiar foe Kelseyville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Cloverdale will face off against rival St. Helena at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 2.7, the Saints 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
