Basketball Recap: Waterford Comes Up Short

If Waterford was riding high fresh off their 82-25 takedown of Le Grand last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Waterford Wildcats took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mariposa County Grizzlies on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 57-27 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Waterford still got an impressive performance from Elijah Thornberry, who posted 14 points. Izaiah Sanchez was another key player, putting up eight points.

Waterford's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Mariposa County, they moved to 6-10 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waterford will take on Delhi at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mariposa County, they will challenge Stone Ridge Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
