Softball Recap: Granite Hills Picks Up Fourth Straight Win on the Road

Granite Hills barely beat Victor Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars put the hurt on the Jackrabbits with a sharp 16-4 win on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Jackrabbits: they've now won six in a row.

Kathryn (Kat) McCartney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Mylie Shepard and Taylor Godwin did most of the damage at the plate: Shepard went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Godwin went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Shepard is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was MacKinzie Gomez, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Granite Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in six consecutive matches.

Granite Hills pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.2 runs. As for Victor Valley, they are on a 27-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Granite Hills beat the Jackrabbits by a score of 19-4 on Friday.
