Baseball Recap: Taft Comes Up Short

Taft lost a heartbreaker to Niles Notre Dame when they met back in April of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. The Eagles came up short against the Dons, falling 11-1. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Dons: they've now lost six in a row.

Taft got a good showing from John Romano, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Romano has allowed since back in April of 2025.

On the hitting side, Taft saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Espinosa, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Carlos Gonzalez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Taft's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Niles Notre Dame, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taft will host Lane Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Champions will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Niles Notre Dame, they will be playing at home against Warren Township at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Dons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
