Preview: Santa Rosa Lions vs. Texico Wolverines
Santa Rosa is 2-8 against Texico since August of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Santa Rosa Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Texico Wolverines at 1:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Santa Rosa comes in on nine and Texico on four.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Santa Rosa walked away with it. They blew past Loving 57-15 at home. The result was nothing new for Santa Rosa, who have now won eight matchups by 33 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Santa Rosa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nicolas Chavez, who rushed for 137 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. Chavez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Romo, who rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Meanwhile, while Texico put up plenty of points on Saturday, the same can't be said for Estancia. Texico simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Estancia 50-0 at home. Texico might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six matchups by 22 points or more this season.
Santa Rosa's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.8 points per game. As for Texico, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Santa Rosa couldn't quite finish off Texico in their previous matchup back in August and fell 28-26. Can Santa Rosa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
