Baseball Recap: Union Catholic Comes Up Short

Union Catholic was the 5-3 winner over Johnson when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Vikings fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. Vikings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Crusaders since Saturday.

Chris Tortorella spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

This is the second loss in a row for Union Catholic and nudges their season record down to 9-6-1. As for Johnson, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Union Catholic will challenge Cranford at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Johnson, they will take on Elizabeth at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
