Game recap

Garnet Valley (Glen Mills, Pa.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 25 in Pennsylvania, but was stunned by Springfield (Pa.), 35-25. Springfield was ranked at No. 156 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Pennsylvania coming into the week.

After taking the lead on a Aaron Coyne touchdown run in the first quarter, the Cougars led 14-0 at the half.

Springfield was ahead by as much as 14 before the Jaguars pulled closer.

SHS's most effective player was Cameron Durham. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.

The victory will ease some of the sting of the Cougars' close 42-41 loss to Garnet Valley last season.

The defeat comes as a step back for Garnet Valley, which notched a 49-7 victory over Lower Merion in its previous outing. With the win Springfield extended its winning streak to four games.

In a Central game next week Garnet Valley (4-1) takes on Ridley, and Springfield (4-1) will go up against Radnor also in a Central game.
