Basketball Recap: Gross Catholic Takes a Loss

Gross Catholic lost against Bennington back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Gross Catholic Cougars came up short against the Bennington Badgers, falling 68-46. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Badgers are ranked 34th).

Austin Kaiser continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bennington, going 10-for-19 to rack up 23 points along with six boards and four blocks. Those four blocks gave Kaiser a new career-high. Baylor Detjens also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first board of the season.

Gross Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Bennington, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars challenge the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Considering Gross Catholic has lost five straight at home and South Sioux City eight straight on the road, this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum. As for Bennington, they will welcome Mount Michael Benedictine on February 20th.
