Baseball Game Preview: Pershing County Mustangs vs. Battle Mountain Longhorns

For the second straight game, Pershing County will face off against Battle Mountain. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Longhorns at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pershing County has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 22.

Pershing County came up short against Battle Mountain on Tuesday, falling 9-2.

For Battle Mountain's part, Jacob Perrone was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over 5.1 innings pitched. Perrone also allowed no hits, which is notable because Battle Mountain is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 4-10 otherwise. Perrone was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Damian Solis was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Edgar Nunez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Battle Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pershing County only posted an OBP of .219.

Battle Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pershing County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pershing County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Battle Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
