Weiss found their leader in sophomore Jaxon Schad, who threw for 332 yards and five TDs while completing 90% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. With that strong performance, Schad is now averaging an impressive 303.3 passing yards per game. Tre Moore was in the mix as well, providing Weiss with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Hays took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 53-22 win over Lockhart. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 30 points or more this season.
Weiss better keep an eye on Gabriel Peach. He was instrumental in Hays' win, rushing for 125 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 62 receiving yards and one score. Those 125 rushing yards gave Peach a new career-high. Tacoma Ames was another key player, gaining 212 total yards and a touchdown.
Hays was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 253 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 246 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.
Hays' defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Nate Rolland, Josiah Salazar, and Kiefer Patterson, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Lockhart's side was Kru Allen, who made 18 total tackles.
Weiss' record now sits at 5-1. As for Hays, their record is now 4-1.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Weiss has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 323.3 passing yards per game. Hays, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 237 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Everything came up roses for Weiss against Hays in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 63-13 victory. In that game, the Wolves amassed a halftime lead of 42-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
