Basketball Recap: Burke County Bears vs. Josey Eagles
Burke County lost against Josey back in December of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Burke County Bears took a blow against the Josey Eagles, falling 80-38. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while the Eagles are ranked 23rd).
Despite the loss, Burke County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Londyn Williams went 9 for 16 en route to 18 points and eight rebounds. Williams is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games.
Josey's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keasia Henderson, who shot 5-for-6 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine assists. Henderson has been hot recently, having posted nine or more assists the last four times she's played. Kerri Fluellen was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards.
Burke County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5. As for Josey, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2.
Burke County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-36 loss against Butler on the 17th. As for Josey, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-49 defeat against Thomson on the 17th.
