Baseball Game Preview: Greenfield Knights vs. Wayne Christian Eagles

For the second straight game, Greenfield will face off against Wayne Christian. The Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Greenfield is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.

On Tuesday, Greenfield beat Wayne Christian 8-5. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly three runs.

Christopher Tankersley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Mack Wiggins and Clark Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Wiggins scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Johnson scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Cianan Braundel, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Greenfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Greenfield's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Wayne Christian, they moved to 8-6 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wayne Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts.
