Softball Game Preview: Mathews Mustangs vs. St. John Heralds

The Mathews Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the St. John Heralds at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Mathews will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Mathews saw some tournament action on Thursday. They blew past Central Christian 13-3.

Cardinal hit St. John with a 16-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Heralds came up short against the Huskies, falling 18-7. The Heralds have struggled against the Huskies recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Maddie Holler and Nadia Lagoa stepped up to the plate in a big way. Holler went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Lagoa went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Carney, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

Mathews' win bumped their record up to 14-11. As for St. John, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Mathews couldn't quite finish off St. John in their previous matchup back in April and fell 15-13. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
