Softball Recap: Katella Starts Season with Win at Home

Katella gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over the Savanna Rebels. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rebels, too.

Dani Neville was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Katella got a massive performance out of Jazlyn Garcia, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs Garcia has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Krystal Barrios, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Katella always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Savanna only posted an OBP of .176.

Katella has already played their next match, an 8-4 defeat against Woodrow Wilson on the 20th. As for Savanna, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-3 loss against Oxford Academy on the 20th.
