Baseball Recap: Commerce Red Raiders vs. Smith Vo-Tech Vikings
Commerce extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 17 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They came up short against the Smith Vo-Tech Vikings, falling 18-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.
As for Smith Vo-Tech, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
For Smith Vo-Tech's part, James Lavallee made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Lavallee has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Smith Vo-Tech got a massive performance out of Pat Millin, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Millin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Corey Krikendall, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Looking ahead, Commerce will head out on the road to face off against Westfield Technical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Smith Vo-Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
