Xavier Prep extended their losing streak to 20 on Monday, dropping them down to 1-22. They lost 12-3 to the Temecula Prep Patriots. The Saints were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2020.
Ariana Chaparro was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Vivi Delgado, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Temecula Prep, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.
On Temecula Prep's side, Jasmine Burkey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Burkey has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Ava Winkowski was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times she's played. Samiyah Antoine was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
As of now, neither Xavier Prep nor Temecula Prep have any future games scheduled.
