Baseball Game Preview: Lynbrook Vikings vs. Evergreen Valley Cougars

The Lynbrook Vikings will face off against the Evergreen Valley Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lynbrook's hitters haven't had much luck over their past six matches, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lynbrook came up short against Monta Vista last Thursday, falling 11-2.

Meanwhile, Evergreen Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Oak Grove on Thursday, taking the game 7-2. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Vince Garcia was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has become a key player for Evergreen Valley: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 4-8 otherwise. Garcia was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Wong, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Mateo Hernandez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Evergreen Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Lynbrook's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Evergreen Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
