Basketball Game Preview: Calvert Senecas vs. New Riegel Blue Jackets

Calvert has gone 8-2 against New Riegel recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Calvert Senecas will be playing at home against the New Riegel Blue Jackets at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

New Riegel is hoping to do what Woodmore couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Calvert's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Calvert took their game with ease, bagging a 58-29 victory over Woodmore. Given the Senecas' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while the Wildcats are ranked 701st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Calvert's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Gavin Wagner, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards, and Logan Ritzler, who posted 14 points. What's more, Wagner also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Carter Wolph was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, New Riegel entered their tilt with Lakota on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They breezed by the Raiders to the tune of 68-40.

New Riegel's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points per game. As for Calvert, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Calvert skirted past New Riegel 54-52 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Calvert repeat their success, or does New Riegel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
