Volleyball Recap: Salem Hills Comes Up Short

If Salem Hills was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Springville last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Skyhawks fell 3-1 to the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

While Salem Hills ultimately came up short, they really made Maple Mountain work, particularly in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-16, 27-25.

Kaycee Van Horn paced Salem Hills' offense, picking up nine kills. Van Horn got some help from Evee Schaerrer and her 26 assists. Brielle Hofheins controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maple Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aliyah Marks, who had 18 digs and three aces. Marks has been hot, having posted 16 or more digs the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emily Gray, who had eight assists and seven digs.

Salem Hills has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-21 record this season. As for Maple Mountain, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-6.

Salem Hills didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 defeat against Payson on the 21st. As for Maple Mountain, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Springville on the 21st.
