Baseball Preview: Clay County Tigers vs. Perry County Central Commodores
The Clay County Tigers will take on the Perry County Central Commodores at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Clay County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against South Laurel, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Tigers fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The Tigers have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Perry County Central and Letcher County Central had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Commodores never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Commodores have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Devin Gayhart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Perry County Central is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Gayhart was also big at the plate, earning two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Perry County Central got a massive performance out of Sheldon Ritchie, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
