Basketball Recap: New Castle Comes Up Short

New Castle lost against Connersville back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The New Castle Trojans took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Connersville Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Spartans are ranked 62nd).

Despite the defeat, New Castle saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Piper Arthur posted 12 points. Arthur is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.

Even though they lost, New Castle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Connersville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Addison Jones out in front who earned seven points along with seven assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendyl Bottomley, who had seven points and 12 boards.

New Castle has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Connersville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

New Castle didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-38 loss against Shelbyville on the 13th. As for Connersville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 46-38 victory against Batesville on the 12th.
